Bounce Ports

Juniper Routing Assurance enables administrators to bounce a router's ports. You can disable and re-enable a router's interfaces using the Bounce Port feature. You can use the Bounce Port feature to refresh network connections and to troubleshoot network issues.

Bouncing a port in a production network can disrupt services. To avoid network outages or traffic disruptions, Juniper Routing Assurance seeks confirmation from network administrators before bouncing a port. Also, if the selected port is the management port, Juniper Routing Assurance recognizes this and notifies administrators before bouncing the port.

You can access the Bounce Port feature from two locations:

  1. The Router Utilities on the Routers:Router Name page.

  2. The Front Panel Tab on the Routers:Router Name page.

Note:

To use the Bounce Port feature, the router must be in Connected state.

Bounce a Port from Router Utilities

You can bounce a router's port using the Testing Tools feature available under router Utilities.

To disable and re-enable an interface:

  1. On the Juniper Routing Assurance application, click Routers from the main navigation menu.
  2. Click a router to open the Routers:Router Name page.
  3. Select Testing Tools from the Utilities drop-down list on the upper right of the page.
    The Router Testing Tools page appears.
  4. Click the Bounce Port Tab.
  5. Select a port from the port name drop-down list.

    The port name drop-down list shows both interface name and the configured interface description, enabling administrators to identify the correct interface before initiating the bounce process.

  6. Click Bounce Port.
    The Confirm Bounce Port pop-up appears.
    Warning: The Bounce Port event might be service impacting. Click Cancel to abort the action.
  7. Enter Yes in the text box to confirm the Bounce Port action.
  8. Click Bounce Port.
    The port is disabled and then immediately enabled.
    Note: The port name drop-down list displays interface descriptions configured on the router, alongside interface names providing additional context and reducing the risk of selecting the wrong port for a bounce operation.

Bounce a Port from the Routers:Router Name Page

The Bounce Ports feature on the Routers:Router Name page enables you to bounce one or more ports on a router at the same time.

To bounce one or more ports:

  1. On the Juniper Routing Assurance application, click Routers from the main navigation menu.
  2. Click a router to open the Routers:Router Name page.
  3. Select one or more ports from the Front Panel Tab. Click a port channel to select one or more interfaces from the list of channel ports.
  4. Click Bounce Port.
    The Confirm Bounce Ports pop-up appears.
    Warning:

    The Bounce Port event might be service impacting. Click Cancel to abort the action.
  5. Enter Yes in the text box to confirm the Bounce Ports action.
  6. Click Bounce Ports.
    The port is disabled and then immediately enabled.
