EX5200 Ports and Interfaces

This topic describes the ports on the EX5200 switch and their corresponding Junos OS interfaces.

Interface Naming on the EX5200

The ports on the EX5200 have interfaces associated with them in Junos OS. These interfaces follow the below naming convention:

type-fpc/pic/port:channel

  • type—This refers to the media type of the interface. For some interfaces, the media type depends on the transceiver plugged into the physical port.

    • ge—1 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interface

    • xe—10 GbE interface

    • mge—100-Mbps, 1/2.5/5/10 GbE Multirate Gigabit Ethernet interface

    • et—25/40/100 GbE interface

  • fpc—Flexible PIC Concentrator.

  • pic—Physical Interface Card.

    • PIC 0

    • PIC 1

    • PIC 2

  • port—You can check the port number from the front panel of the switch

  • channel—This is only applicable to channelized interfaces. For all other interfaces, this option is absent.

Note:

Interface prefix naming conventions

SFP28 Extension Module ports

  • Port speed is 1-Gbps - ge-0/2/0 to ge-0/2/7

  • Port speed is 10-Gbps - xe-0/2/0 to xe-0/2/7

QSFP28 Extension Module ports

  • Port speed is 4x10-Gbps (Channelized ports) - xe-0/2/0:0, xe-0/2/0:1, xe-0/2/0:2, xe-0/2/0:3

  • Port speed is 4x25-Gbps (Channelized ports) - et-0/2/0:0, et-0/2/0:1, et-0/2/0:2, et-0/2/0:3

Use the speed command to set the speed on the 8x25-Gbps and 2x100-Gbps uplink modules For information about how to configure the speed at the chassis level, see Configure Port Speed at Chassis Level.

Note the following guidelines about when you configure port speed:

  • You should only configure applicable speeds on mge interfaces. Unsupported speeds are not effective on link speed of the interface.

  • The mge ports do not support the no-auto-negotiation command.

  • The mge ports do not support auto-MDIX disable.

  • 8x25-Gbps uplink modules do not support 1G SFP-T, 100BASE-FX, and 100BASE-LX transceivers.

Interfaces on the EX5200 Switch

Each network port on the EX5200 has a unique interface on Junos OS associated with it.

The show chassis hardware command in Junos OS displays an inventory of all physical hardware components installed in a router or switch and the show interfaces terse command on switches running Junos OS displays a brief, high-level summary of all physical and logical interfaces configured on the device.
