Channelization on the EX5200 Switch

You can split the high-speed ports on your device into multiple low-speed ports using channelization.

Channelization is supported on:

  • The two QSFP28 stacking/Virtual Chassis ports on the EX5200 switches. Note that this is supported only if the Virtual Chassis ports are in network mode. The network mode for Virtual Chassis ports is a setting that configures specific stacking/VC ports to function as standard data network interfaces rather than as Virtual Chassis Ports (VCPs).

  • The two QSFP28 ports of the uplink module (2 x 100 G (QSFP 28))

You can channelize each port using a breakout cable. By default a QSFP28 port operates in 100-gigabit mode. In the default 100-gigabit mode, you can channelize a port and configure it to operate in 25-gigabit mode by using the set chassis fpc 0 pic 2 port 0 channel-speed 25g command and a 4x25GbE breakout cable.

When the QSFP28 port is operating in 40-gigabit mode (if you insert a 40GbE QSFP+ transceiver), you can channelize a port and configure it to operate in 10-gigabit mode by using the set chassis fpc 0 pic 2 port 0 channel-speed 10g command and a 4x10GbE breakout cable.
